The LiftMaster CSL 24V DC Review
Problems that plagued earlier models have been eliminated in this compact, lightweight model. Installation is completely wireless, making the unit easy to place or move. With no wires to run, there is no need to make cracks in the nearby concrete or run unsightly wires along the outside of the house.
The CSL24V includes its own radio receiver with twice the range of standard remote controls. Capable of holding up to 50 remotes and compatible with Homelink Version 4 and higher, this superior technology cuts out the radio interference experienced with many competitors.
Environmentally conscious shoppers will be pleased with the energy efficiency of the CSL24V. It has the strength to lift a 1,500 pound gate when it’s needed, but it conserves power when not in use. It has exceptionally low power usage on standby, resulting in much lower consumption than many earlier models.
Shoppers who may have been unhappy with cumbersome, wire-based lift mechanisms should take a look at the CSL24V. It can’t be beat for size, lightness, ease and reliability. It does all this using less power than other competitors that are bigger, harder to install and less reliable.

6 Of The Most Common Public Storage Gates
Most Common Public Storage Unit Gates
One of the biggest concerns for anyone needing to store their belongings is security. Tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars worth of items are locked away in any given storage facility. The one thing that's keeping your items out of the hands of thieves – the public storage gate.
There are many types of storage access gates in use today. They serve as an integral part of the overall security measures that a storage facility takes. In this post we'll discuss some of the most common types of storage access gates that you'll come across.
1. Sliding Gates
The sliding gate is possibly the most common type of public storage gate. These gates are ideal for areas where there is limited room or not enough space for a swing gate. A sliding gate opens up by moving horizontally to one side along a track. These types of gates work well on a variety of surfaces, though ones that are even can pose a challenge.
2. Swing Gates
The swing gate is another popular style of public storage gate. This type of gate opens by the door swinging back or forward to provide access. Swing gates can either have one door or two doors that open up in the middle. As eluded to above, this type of gate requires ample room in order for the doors to open. A flat surface that the door won't catch on is also necessary.
3. Vertical Pivot Lift Gate
Vertical Pivot Lift gates are less common than swing gates and sliding gates, however they are growing in popularity. This type of gate pivots upward to a 90-degree angle. The gate basically goes from a horizontal to a vertical position. Like sliding gates, vertical pivot lift gates don't require space in front of or behind the doors in order to open up. They work well on all types of surfaces including those that are uneven or sit at an angle.
4. Keypad Entry
There are numerous ways that entry can be granted through a gate. Many storage unit facilities use a keypad entry system because there is less maintenance on their part for controlling who is gaining access. This is particularly useful for afterhours when office staff is no longer onsite. Keypad entry systems can be programmed with a wide range of combinations making it convenient for large storage facilities.
5. Remote Operated Gate
Another popular entry method is gates that are operated by remote control. However, due to the cost involved with securing and maintaining a large number of remotes many public storage facilities opt for the keypad entry system.
6. Card Access Gate
Accessing a gate with proximity card is more economical than with a remote control, but will give you the same level of security as all the other access control devices.
The first line of security at any public storage facility is the gate. If you own a facility and would like advice on your gate options, choose one of these options.

10 Troubleshooting Tips for the LiftMaster LA500
If you've opened and closed your gate manually in the past, adding a LiftMaster LA500 to your home or business is a luxurious dream come true. With the press of a button, your gate opens to allow specific cars onto your property. Closing quickly behind you, you and your loved ones remain safe behind an automatic gate opener. However, like most technology, some problems could occur. Here are some simple *troubleshooting tips to allow you to discover, and resolve, any issues troubling the gate opener.
- Check Backup Battery - Your LiftMaster LA500 uses hardwired power to open and close, but it also draws power from a backup battery when power supplies are down. If your gate opener does not operate when the power goes out, your backup battery may have failed. Inspect the battery for any damage or loose wires. After many charging cycles, the battery must be replaced.
- Inspect Gate Area - If you discover that the gate will not open to visitors, inspect the immediate gate area. Any obstacles, such as fallen tree limbs, can hinder the gate's doors, effectively locking it in place. Remove any obvious obstacles to the door, including cars that drive too close to the gate. If the opener detects an object, it remains closed for safety purposes.
- Check "Party" Option - The LiftMaster LA500 has a particular "hold open" option to allow party guests to enter a property. You set the opener to this mode, effectively holding the gate in a perpetually open state. If your door does not want to close, check this setting. Reset the gate opener, if necessary, to facilitate normal operation.
- Gate Too Heavy - If you recently added decorations to the gate, such as numerous holiday wreaths, the opener may hesitate during opening. Verify that the gate is not too heavy for the opener to work correctly. A newly updated gate, using a reinstalled LiftMaster LA500, may be too heavy as well. In general, this opener works perfectly for gates as much as 1,600 pounds and 18 feet long. Do not force the opener to work on extremely heavy gates.
- Main Circuit Board Inspection - If your gate does not work remotely, such as from your smartphone or computer, inspect the main circuit board. Any burnt or damaged areas require repair or replacement to access the opener's operations remotely.
- Only One Remote Works - A faulty remote typically needs a new battery. Although the batteries last for many months, they wear out over time. Replace the battery for a fully operational remote.
- Electrical Power Issues - A hardwired opener may be difficult to maintain, with pinched or damaged wires. Consider converting your system to solar power for better operation.
- Gate Closes On Object - Adjust or replace your motion sensors. The gate opener must have a fail-safe to avoid damaging property or hurting people.
- Humming Sound and No Motion - Your opener's motor can overheat over time, causing extensive internal damage. A humming sound coupled with no motion indicates a new motor replacement is necessary.
- Shorts Out Intermittently - If your area is prone to electrical storms, add a ground rod to your opener system. Any static or lightning electricity shorts to ground, removing any intermittent issues from your gate operations.

What to Know About Hydraulic vs Mechanical Gate Systems
When you are security gate shopping there are numerous types of access control systems that you may have questions about. Two of the more common gate operators are hydraulic gates and mechanical gates.
Both gate openers are used for many residential and commercial purposes, but the motors of these machines work in very different ways. Here we’ll provide you with information so you can compare and contrast the two access control systems.
How Mechanical Gates Work
It’s quite common to see mechanical gate operators, also known as electromechanical gates. These gates use high voltage power that’s provided by power mains. However, they can also be outfitted with solar panels as well as a backup battery so that access is possible during a power outage.
There are three main types of mechanical gates:
Mechanical gates can be programmed to open with a wireless remote control, by keypad or manually.
How Hydraulic Gates Work
Hydraulic gates are electric however they require hydraulic fluids for movement. In a hydraulic gate there are far fewer moving parts compared to a mechanical operator, which can be an advantage. Hydraulic motors are also capable of producing more power so if your gate is on the large side this might be the best option. Hydraulic gates don’t even have to be operated at full power to open large gates.
Another advantage of hydraulic gates is that they can be non-locking. This helps to protect the access control system if a vehicle runs into it. The internal seals will likely be broken should this happen, but they can be repaired.
Hydraulic gate operators can also be used with swing or slide gates and can be controlled via wireless remote. These operating systems will also need to have a backup power system to meet national fire code requirements.
